Bulldog (English)
The English Bulldog is among the gentlest of dogs. Yet they will chase off any intruder. They are very affectionate and dependable, gentle with children, but also known for their courage and their excellent watchdog abilities. English Bulldogs are very much a peoples dog, seeking out human attention as often as possible.
The English Bulldog is good for apartment life. They are very inactive indoors and will do okay without a yard. And they adapt equally well to large homes with large yards. The English Bulldog is strictly an indoor dog. They do best in temperate climates as they can chill easily in cold weather. Likewise, they also tend to have trouble cooling off in very hot weather.
The English Bulldog's coat is smooth, fine, shorthaired and easy to groom. Comb and brush with a firm bristle brush, and bathe only when necessary. Skin is soft and loose, especially at the head and shoulders, forming wrinkles. They are medium size dogs, their weight generally not exceeding 50 pounds. You will need to wipe their face with a damp cloth every day to clean inside the wrinkles.
Some adult English Bulldogs would just as soon not take any exercise, while others are full of energy. In any case, all English Bulldogs will stay fitter if given some regular exercise. Fit English Bulldogs are capable of moving very quickly for short periods of time. Plan to take breaks often when taking long walks.
The name bulldog is of medieval origin and refers to the robust appearance as well as the powerfulness of the dog.
