Golden Retriever

The Golden Retriever is a beautiful, sturdy, well-proportioned dog with a feathered, medium-length, cream to golden-colored coat. They are lovable, well mannered; intelligent dogs that possess great charm. They are easily trained, and are always patient and gentle with children.

They enjoy pleasing their masters, they are friendly with EVERYONE, and I do mean EVERYONE. They will even be friendly to an intruder breaking into your house. The Golden Retriever has very little, if any, guarding instincts. They make for an excellent family pet, and a very poor choice for a guard dog. They do, however, make good watchdogs. They will signal a stranger's approach very loudly. After which they will very likely seek love and attention from the very same stranger.

If you haven’t figured it out already, the Golden Retriever needs to be around people to be happy. If isolated from human contact, or left alone for long periods of time, the Golden Retriever may become mischievous.

Renown for its reliable temperament and gentle nature, Golden Retrievers are a very popular choice for guide dogs. They are also frequently used for hunting, tracking, retrieving, narcotics detection, agility, competitive obedience, and performing tricks. And they do love the water! If you have water near your property, expect your Golden to be wet more often than you want him to be.

The typical Golden Retriever will grow to approximately 60-80 pounds. They are moderately active indoors and will do best with at least a medium to large yard. They need daily exercise, but since they like to retrieve balls and sticks, exercising is both easy and fun.

The Golden Retriever is an average shedder. The smooth, medium-haired double coat is easy to groom. Comb and brush with a firm bristle brush, paying particular attention to the dense undercoat. Dry shampoo regularly, but bathe only when necessary.
