Parson Russell Terrier
Originally known as the Jack Russell Terrier, the Parson Russell Terrier was originally breed to be a foxhunter. You’ll find the Parson Russell Terrier to be bold, friendly, athletic and clever. They are playful, exuberant and overwhelmingly affectionate. The Parson Russell is an independent and energetic terrier that requires considerable attention.
To own a Parson Russell Terrier is to own a dog of character. They are honest, intelligent and even comical. They enjoy having a regular routine, but like all true terriers, they are always ready for the unexpected and will tackle any task with considerable determination. Treat your Parson Russell with respect and you’ll have a loyal friend for life.
The Parson Russell terrier is very adaptable and will exercise itself in a small yard, though they truly desire space to run, hunt and play. They do okay in an apartment if it is sufficiently exercised. They are very active indoors and will do best with at least an average-sized yard. If you plan to keep your Parson Russell in an apartment you should plan to have someone home with it during the day. And you should expect to get out and give your dog some exercise when you get home, lest you be pestered to death for attention and exercise when you get home.
All Parson Russell Terriers have coats that are easy to groom. Comb and brush regularly with a firm bristle brush, and bathe only when necessary.
The name of the Jack Russell Terrier was changed to Parson Russell Terrier on April 1, 2003 as requested by the Jack Russell Terrier Association of America.
